Sleep and Crystals

Did you know that 30% of adults suffer from insomnia? In the United States, 50-70 million people suffer from sleep disorders! We’re a sleep-deprived nation, and it has a lot to do with our environment.  The blue light from our tech tools rewires our brain, impacting how easily we fall and stay asleep. Throw into that the pollution to our air and environmental toxins.  On top of that, we are also more anxious than previous generations, which keeps us up at night. No wonder we can’t sleep!

The factor underlying a majority of sleep difficulties is trouble turning our brains off at night.  Rehashing the day’s events, going over worries, and prepping our to-do list can keep us from catching the rest we so desire.  As someone who has had their own experiences with sleep disorders, I’ve done my fair share of research into the best practices in sleep hygiene.  I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum- from sleep apnea that left me sleeping when I didn’t want to, to anxiety that prevented me from falling asleep in the first place.  I’ve done my research on sleep tips that actually work, and of course have now added crystals into the mix.    Let’s walk through some strategies for better shut-eye and their crystal counterparts:

  • Set a technology curfew.  At least an hour before bed go tech-free! That means no television, mobile phones, laptops, or tablets.  Looking for a little help with all of the energy and electromagnetic pollution that comes off of our electronics? Consider putting some Amazonite on a necklace or next to the bad to absorb them. My cellphone used to be my alarm to wake up, so I kept Amazonite on my nightstand so that those electromagnetic energies would not mess with my sleep.

  • Release the day.  The physical tension of the day residing in our tissues can keep us from relaxing fully to sleep.  Find a yoga sequence for sleep to help release those muscles.  Partner it with some Selenite to clear and realign your energy so that you wake up refreshed.

  • Set the mood.  Lavender is a scent that has been shown in studies to increase relaxation.  Get a lavender pillow spray or put some lavender essential oil in your diffuser before bed.  Moonstone reduces emotional tension- place it under your pillow or on your nightstand to relax with ease.

  • Catch some Oms before your Z’s.  Guided meditations are a fantastic way to relax and release the thoughts that keep us up at night.  There are a variety of options, from adult bedtime stories, to body relaxation strategies, and peaceful music.  Couple one with your Lepidolite for ultimate zen. This is one of my favorite strategies.  Having a story or voice to focus on makes it very easy to leave my worries or stresses out of the bedroom.

  • Clear the air.  Sometimes our sleep quality is impacted by the quality of the air in our bedroom.  Consider if your room needs a humidifier or dehumidifier to keep you breathing easy while you rest.  Put out some Black Tourmaline to clear negative energy while you’re at it.

A good night’s rest is the basis for a day of feeling our best.  It’s some of the most basic self-care, and one of the most important.  You don’t have to do it alone, your crystals are here to help.
