The Nature Conservancy

January 2021, we welcome it in with a big sigh of relief and hope for positive changes that lie ahead. The month of January derives its name for the Roman god Janus, who is the god of doors, doorways, arches, openings and closings. He is known for his two faces, looking into the past for perspective and to the future for hope. This being significant as we move away from all the challenges of 2020 and take with us all that our souls have absorbed and move forward with gratitude and hope.

One of the charity suggestions we received from our family of followers was for The Nature Conservancy. This organization developed out of a scholarly organization that was founded in 1915 called the Ecological Society of America that focused on conservation and preservation of natural areas. As this society grew, its members split into two different areas of focus, and the conservation group later formed into The Nature Conservancy in 1951. It is now one of the largest and most effective wide reaching environmental organizations in the world. Their mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. It has over 1 million members, a staff of over 400 scientists and focuses on conservation in 72 countries and territories. They have over 100 marine conservation projects and have protected over 125 million acres of land.

Within this organization there are many opportunities to give support and we have chosen to support their ā€œplant a billion treesā€ in hopes of restoring the global forests and play a part in preventing deforestation. A new year and new tre, that will filter clean air, become a home to plants and animals, provide fresh drinking water and assist in curbing climate change. As Munia Khan said ā€œtrees exhale for us so that we can inhale them to stay alive. Can we ever forget that? Let us love trees with every breath we take until we perish.ā€

For the month of January we will be featuring a labradorite crystal in the shape of a heart. Labradorite is a stone of magic and protection. It aids one in magical and ritual work and will bring one to their deep depths where an abundance of knowledge can be discovered. For this very reason, Labradorite is considered by many to be a stone of transformation and self-discovery. It helps one to awaken to their own unique magical abilities and powers. For every stone purchased 100% of proceeds will be donated to ā€œplant a billion treesā€.
