Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation

It's November, the beginning of the holiday is season is coming upon us quickly. When most of us think about November we think about the fall, the season of giving, finding things to be thankful for. November represents the spiritual warrior, this month acting as a mirror, reflecting the truth that the real battle lies with your own self.

But….November is also about bringing awareness to men’s health issues. There are many charities that focus on men’s health, and The Crystal Council has chosen to bring awareness to testicular cancer through the Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation.

Testicular cancer can develop in one or both of a man’s testicles and is the most common form of cancer in men between 15-40 years of age. Each year approximately 9,310 new cases will be diagnosed in the US and an estimated 400 men will die. If the cancer has not spread beyond the testicles the survival rate is 99%.

SO what is a man supposed to do? Check those “BALLS” monthly with self-examinations, performed after a warm shower. Feel for a painless lump or swelling on either testicle, a testicular tumor may be about the size of a pea or a marble, but it can grow much larger. Also, be aware of pain, discomfort, or numbness in a testicle or the scrotum, with or without swelling. The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation was established in memory of Sean Kimerling, an Emmy Award-winning anchor and pre-game announcer for the Mets. Sean died from testicular cancer when he was only 37. The mission of this charity is to raise awareness of testicular cancer and the importance of self-examinations for early diagnosis and treatment. They educate through the distribution of shower cards for self-examination, social media awareness campaigns and their “Running of the Balls” races.
