Couple Sends books to Inmates

Diane and Robert Findlay understand that kindness is something that every individual is entitled to, regardless of who or what they've done.

This has led to the couple donating books to the Dallas County Jail. This idea was spawned during their faith based book club during the pandemic. They realized that inmates were being overlooked and felt that that needed to change.

"These are people who at various levels and for various reasons have made mistakes and they have a lot of time on their hands," Diane said. "If we can help them use that time constructively ... that's a good thing."

The great thing about this is that these books are not just randomly sent. Rather, the couple gave the jail surveys for the inmates to fill out. These surveys asked them what type of books they wanted to see and read.

The survey showed a wide variety of books that the inmates were looking for, from poetry to self help! At this point, the couple has donated enough books to fill up three library carts and it is still growing. Diane and Robert make sure that the inventory is constantly changing to meet the inmate's demands. In response to these demands, the couple has started accepting donations from other communities.
