Science & Origin of Namibian Black Tourmaline
Namibian Black Tourmaline is a variety of Black Tourmaline that crystallizes in needle-like formations, terminated crystals, and double-terminated clusters. These unique specimens have natural luster and etchings, and are famous for it’s 3 sided appearance similar to the Mercedes-Benz logo. Namibian Black Tourmaline is also defined by the presence of tiny needles occasionally found on the edges of the stone. We recommend being very careful when holding them, as we have had multiple issues with tourmaline slivers. The only known locality of this tourmaline pocket is in the Erongo mountains, in the Erongo region of Namibia.
Meaning & Energy
Namibian Black Tourmaline is generally not sold in large quantities, which provides a higher valuation for this stone compared to other Black Tourmalines from around the world. Not only is the appearance and investment different, but so are the stones that form alongside it. Most of the pieces will have Albite on it, which is generally not very rare, but some of the specimens also have tiny crystals of Hyalite Opal. This opal is very special and has a UV reactive presence, which glows green under medium wave UV light.
