Although it is commonly sold as a Jasper, this stone is actually a fine-grained Rhyolite. The unusual pattern on the stone occurs during the creation process, when magma slowly cooled and naturally formed unique, white star-like arrangements on the brown matrix surface. The most notable locality to mine Starburst Jasper is in Mexico, but there are smaller deposits found in Rhyolite mines throughout the world.
