Wood Jasper, also known as Walnut Jasper, is a variety of Brown Jasper that crystallizes in massive formations. The color is yellow, tan or light brown, and it can have straight lined or banded patterns throughout the stone. Wood Jasper often gets misidentified as Picture Jasper, with the main difference being the spotted pattern throughout the matrix and dendrite-looking inclusions. The main locality of Wood Jasper comes from India, but smaller deposits can be found throughout the world wherever Brown Jasper or Yellow Jasper veins are located.
