Fossil Shell Jasper is a combination of ancient marine life shells on a jasper limestone matrix that crystallizes in massive formations. Most of the Biological inclusions come from Orthoceras and Ammonite, but plant botanicals can be included in the matrix as well. The color is usually white or lighter grey shells and plant matter on a dark black matrix that is mainly limestone with jasper inclusions. Fossil Shell Jasper is often sold simply as Orthoceras, due to the similarities in color, as well as the established branding of the name. While this mineral is commonly sourced from China, we believe there are also deposits in Morocco; potentially acquired by China before being crafted into palmstones, pendants, spheres, and pocket pieces.
