Science & Origin of Inesite
Inesite is a hydrous calcium manganese silicate mineral that crystallizes in the form of fibrous crystals, prismatic shards, radiating aggregates, and masses. The color ranges from bright pink to red, orange, and brown. It was first discovered in 1887 by Adolf Schneider in Hilfe Gottes Mine, Oberscheld, Dillenburg, Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Giessen Region, Hesse, Germany. The name is derived from the Greek word translated to “ines”, which is a reference to its “flesh fibers”, alluding to its color and crystallization. Inesite deposits are very small and can be found in South Africa, China, Australia, Italy, Japan, Sweden, and the USA.
