Science & Origin of Flower Stone

Flower Stone is the name given to a variety of gabbro porphyry stone with feldspar crystals in basalt that crystallize in massive formation. This stone is nearly identical to Chrysanthemum Stone, and is known locally as the Canadian variety of this stone, as it is only found on Vancouver Island and Texada Island, British Columbia, Canada. The color is white and light green with starburst formation of feldspar crystals, on a black basalt matrix. Usually, the crystals embedded in the basalt are very small, but can range in size and quantity, making each piece unique and different.
