Ocean Picture Stone is a unique mineral that crystallizes in massive formations. This stone is comprised of Blue Chalcedony, Silicated Serpentine, Limonite, and Agate. Its blue color is due to a natural mix of sodium and copper salts dissolved in silica. The color pattern, especially when polished, shows similarities to an ocean and shoreline, where the name originated. Ocean Picture Stone has been dug for many years, with a private claim and mineral rights currently owned by Canadian prospector Dan Hurd in Midway, British Columbia, Canada. A common belief is that a majority, if not all, of this material has been mined out and is very hard to acquire.
Ocean Picture Stone vs Ocean Jasper
This stone is often confused with Ocean Jasper when resold on the market due to the similarity in name and color pattern. Unlike Ocean Jasper, Ocean Picture Stone has much more solid, dominant colors and contains a brecciated pattern of Limonite on the Blue Chalcedony matrix.
