Pink Aventurine is a variety of Quartz with Lepidolite and Hematite inclusions that crystallize in massive formations. The color depends on the amount of impurity within the Quartz. When there is more Lepidolite, the color is a soft pink, as opposed to impurities of Hematite, which have a red or light brown color. Usually, Pink Aventurine is simply called Red Aventurine, but there has been varieties where the presence of Lepidolite has made the stone a similar pink color to that of Thulite, which is why we have chosen to designate it as an individual crystal instead of grouping them together. Some of the Pink Aventurine has Serpentine crystallized in the matrix as well, which gives a two tone color of pink and green. The stone has a great hardness to be crafted and shaped into a variety of different forms, such as towers, spheres, palmstones, jewelry, and beads. The locality of the crystal is in China, but there is also veins of Pink Aventurine in lower qualities wherever Red Aventurine is mined, which is mainly in India.
There is a lot of mislabeling of this stone, where it can be sold as Strawberry Quartz, Red Aventurine, Cherry Tanzurine, Cherry Quartz, and Red Quartz. The best way to differentiate this crystal from other similarly looking minerals is by the color, and if possible, raw formation. Strawberry Quartz has flakes of inclusion within the Quartz that can be easily seen and has a darker color tone. Red Aventurine is usually darker and more common than Pink Aventurine. Cherry Tanzurine is also darker and has only a single locality from Tanzania. Cherry Quartz is a very broad name for any type of Red Quartz, and usually has Hematite inclusions, not Lepidolite. Red Quartz is the most common variety of Hematite included Quartz, and is found in all forms such as prismatic crystals, druzy clusters, and as a secondary coating on crystallized Quartz.
