Science & Origin of Veszelyite
Veszelyite is a rare copper zinc phosphate mineral that crystallizes in prismatic, elongated, radial, druzy, and granular formations. The color can be light green to dark blue and can occur with other copper oxide and zinc minerals. These associated crystals are Malachite, Azurite , Hemimorphite, Aurichalcite, Brochantite, Chrysocolla, and Smithsonite. Veszelyite was discovered in 1874 by Agost Veszely, a Hungarian mining engineer working in Romania’s Ocna De Fier mining area. Since then, the most famous specimens come out of the Black Pine Mine in Montana, US. This is a famous gold, silver, and copper mine that has been operational since 1882, and has produced some of the most important Veszelyite crystals. Some other lesser-known localities Veszelyite can be found in are China, Zambia, Congo, Scotland, Japan, and Mexico.
