Paragonite

Paragonite

Science & Origin of Paragonite

Paragonite is a sodium aluminum silicate and a member of the Mica family of crystals. It crystallizes in the form of masses and fibrous veins commonly found in metamorphic schists. The color of Paragonite can vary between yellow, grey, white, green, and colorless. Its type locality is Mt. Campione in Tessin, Switzerland, and was at first thought to be a similar-looking mineral known as Talc. This discovery led to its new name being derived from the Greek word “paragon” meaning misleading. Paragonite can be found in various counties such as Russia, Italy, Japan, Australia, Germany, Canada, France, and the U.S.A.

Unique Rarity

This mineral is generally classified as common and can be found all over the world. However, if you are a mineral collector or looking to channel Paragonites energies it may be very difficult to acquire a piece. The small supply that is on the market primarily comes out of Russia. There is a history of this stone being misidentified as Fuchsite or Golden Mica and we believe this has led to its increasing rarity today.
