Science & Origin of Zebra Calcite
Zebra Calcite, also known as Raw Phantom Calcite, is a recently unearthed variety of calcite. It is a calcium carbonate mineral and one of Earth’s most common stones. However, this extremely unique variation has only been found within the last few years in Mexico (not to be confused with the Zebra Stone from Western Australia). It exhibits banding patterns throughout the stone which is reminiscent of a Zebra’s stripes. It may even contain traces of Aragonite. If you haven't yet, expect to see this attractive stone at your next gem show or in your local crystal shop very soon! A majority of the Zebra Calcite coming out of the ground now is just being cleaned and sold on the market purely raw, much like other variations of Calcite. One of our favorite stones of 2020!
