Botryoidal

Botryoidal describes a mineral habit, or appearance, characterized by a globular exterior. This phenomenon is promoted by the presence of multiple crystallization seeds, or centers. As crystals begin to grow outward from these seeds, newly formed spheres overlap with one another creating a bubbly or ‘grape-like’ appearance. This growth pattern often emerges in stones such as Hematite, Goethite, Malachite, Chrysocolla, and Rosasite but may occasionally occur in other stones such as Plumbogummite, Azurite , Rhodochrosite, Hemimorphite, Orpiment, Datolite, and Ulexite depending upon the crystal’s growth conditions.
