Science & Origin of Hollandite in Quartz
Hollandite Quartz, also known as Urchin Quartz and Star Quartz, is a variety of Quartz with a manganese oxide inclusion within the quartz that crystallizes in a starburst formation. This occurs during the creation of the Quartz as small inclusions of Hollandite get caught in the Quartz. Through a natural heating process, the inclusion of Hollandite eventually burst into its star formation. The color is usually dark black and can resemble a spider. When the Quartz is of good quality and more transparent, it is not only of higher value, but also easier to potentially see multiple Hollandite inclusions within the crystal structure. This Quartz combination is believed to have first been discovered in India, but can be found all over the world in countries such as Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Russia, Spain, and the U.S.A.
